Self Driving Cars

Google has been  successful in testing and operating driver less cars. Their technology with self driven cars has in fact opened new laws in the state of Nevada, which now actually issues license for driver less vehicles.

Toyota also recently has experimented with self driven car technology and their first demonstration will be at CES in Las Vegas, later this week. Read more here

Self Driving car technology will be a game changer in road transportation safety. The technology behind this generally involves an on-board radar, laser and video cameras to monitor the road, the surroundings, and the driver. In addition, the cars can also communicate with other vehicles and prevent crashes with safety that is fail proof compared to human operators. 2013 will the year in which this technology will be road tested and implemented on a much wider scale for public acceptance.

1 Gigabit per sec Residential Internet Service (in US) !!

Faster Internet access for residential use in US has been dismal compared to the connectivity options available in South Korea, Japan and even Estonia. US lags behind a lot of developed nations when it comes to internet connectivity speed.

All this is about to change with Google Fiber - This service is allegedly 100 times faster than the average Internet connection currently offered.
Google Fiber is currently offered only in one city in US - in the Kansas City area, where a fiber optic cable network similar to telephone cables has been set up.

Internet data transmission speeds averaging one gigabit per second of data are possible on this service due to fiber optic cable connectivity to customer’s homes. Fiber optic cables transmit data in the form of light through thin glass threads. All this means downloading a full length HD film in under a minute!

The service is affordable with a subscription cost of only $70 per month with additional television service just $50 more per month. Subscribers to Google's service receive a complimentary Nexus 7 tablet, which doubles as a TV remote control.

Affordable 3D Printing for Consumers

3D printers create real, solid objects from digital data. Most 3D printers connect to a computer and create real physical tangible objects, layer by layer. Similar to regular inkjet or laser printers that print on  paper, this new technology prints in three dimensions.

In the past, 3D printing has been limited to big industrial establishments due to the cost factors, however with emerging technology and lower costs, this domain is slowly approaching to work with regular desktops in most people’s homes.

Commercial versions of 3D printing devices can cost tens (or hundreds) of thousands of dollars, making them out of reach for majority.  However, now many companies are bringing out 3D printer devices in the $500-$2000 range, making them affordable for most enthusiasts.

An entry level 3D printing device from Printbot LC costs only $549. To see a list of best 3D printers in the market today, click here
