VPS Hosting vs. Reseller Hosting

In this blog we will give you an overview of what a VPS (Virtual Private Server) hosting is and what Reseller hosting account is:

Reseller Hosting:

Reseller Hosting is nothing more then a glorified version of a shared hosting account. Basically, it runs exactly the same as any regular shared hosting account, but simply has more options and an extra panel, called WHM (Web Host Manager). Like everything else, there are disadvantages, and advantages. Below are some of both:

  • All resources are shared among all users (and resellers) of the server.
  • Depending on how it is configured, it’s possible to have “nobody files,” which means that files that you made don’t belong to you (common problem).
  • If you have a “bad neighbor” you will know very fast, as it’s possible for one user to crash the whole server.
  • Normally a reseller hosting account is managed and that means that there is only a limited amount of things you need to know to start your own hosting company.

Virtual Private Servers (VPS):

Virtualization is not a new technology. In fact it has been around for many many years. How does a VPS work? A VPS is a virtual private environment, basically, where you are the captain of your own ship. No matter what happens outside that ship, you will never be impacted.  eHostPros offers 3 VPS hosting plans. All 3  plans are equally as powerful; the main difference, of course, is the resources allocated per plan. Below are some further details:

  • A VPS cannot be affected no matter, what other people do within their VPS’s.
  • Greater privacy, as you’re in your own world.
  • Can be used for Reseller Hosting (selling to Resellers as well as customers)
  • Can have more IP allocation, and customizable firewall rules
  • Full Root access: the freedom to install anything you would like.
  • Greater stability and performance versus its counterpart

Above, are just some of the differences between Reseller Hosting and Virtual Private Servers.
